Dance, An exhibition of works by the Norwich 20 Group
3rd June 2011 - 31st July 2011
Originally formed from twenty Norwich based artists, the Norwich 20 group has grown in size to over seventy members. The group began in 1944 and grew from a desire to promote modern art in the area. Amongst its members have been Michael Andrews, Mary Newcombe and Leslie Davenport. The theme of Dance was chosen to fit in with the numerous Dance events on at the theatre during this time. The Britannica concise encyclopaedia describes dance as a “form of expression that uses bodily movements that are rhythmic, patterned (or sometimes improvised), and usually accompanied by music”. A handful of members from The Norwich 20 Group have produced artwork inspired by this theme to exhibit at the Norwich Theatre Royal. The theme has been interpreted in many different ways to produce a varied and exciting show.
